- Summary
By his will dated 2 September 1889, Robert Alexander Wright bequeathed £1,000 to the University, establishing 'The Wright Prizes'. These prizes were initially allocated on the basis of 'proficiency in Mechanical Engineering and Carpentering' and 'proficiency in Instrumental Music' and were also awarded in other branches of learning. It was later determined that there would be four annual prizes in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design, Instrumental Music and Family Law. The prize fund was made a University regulation in 1904.
