- Summary
The Bachelor of Arts was the first degree offered by the University of Melbourne when it was founded in 1855. The Faculty of Arts was officially established in 1903, with Professor of Classical Philology, Thomas George Tucker, appointed as the faculty's first Dean. The Faculty of Arts has grown to be one of the largest and oldest faculties in Australia with approximately 7000 students at the end of the 20th century.
