- Summary
Ellen Smithers, late of East St. Kilda, who died on 5 February 1971, desiring to perpetuate the memory of her husband Herbert Welsford Smithers, sometime member of the Faculty of Music, bequeathed the University her residuary estate to apply the income thereof "in perpetuity in founding a scholarship open to graduates of the faculty of Music in the University of Melbourne who wish to continue their study overseas". The University received the sum of $67,441 in satisfaction of the bequest.
