Maurice Cohen, solicitor of Melbourne, presented to the University the sum of $1,000 for the purpose of founding an annual prize in Law in the name of Sir George Whitecross Paton, sometime professor of Jurisprudence and dean of the Faculty of Law and a former Vice Chancellor of the University. In 1984 Mr Cohen gave a further sum of $500 towards the endowment.
