On 14 October 1963 A.J. Glasson Williams, the Assistant Registrar of the University, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, after more than 30 years' service with the University, presented the sum of £600 to be the nucleus of a fund to provide bursaries for the encouragement of worthy students of the University. The donor presented further sums to be added to the fund.
