Grace Melvin Turner, late of Hotel Windsor, Spring Street, Melbourne, who died on 29 January 1959 bequeathed to the University the sum of £5,000 together with a one-sixth share of her residuary estate to be invested and the income to be applied "for the establishment of musical exhibitions to be known as 'The Lady Turner Exhibitions in Music' for the full course in the degree or diploma schools at the Conservatorium of Music of the University of Melbourne".
