Dr. James Warne, formerly of 116 Wellington Parade, East Melbourne, who died on 17 August 1958, bequeathed to the University the sum of £1000 to be applied "as the capital for a Scholarship in Physics at the University of Melbourne to be called the John Tyndall Scholarship in memory of the famous scientist John Tyndall".
