Kathleen Maggie Douglas, who died on 2 July 1951, bequeathed part of her estate for the purpose of founding and endowing a surgical scholarship to be called "The Sir Thomas Naghten Fitzgerald Scholarship" in
memory of her father. The purpose of the scholarship is to enable medical graduates to further their surgical training by study in Australia or overseas.
