Miss Rebecca Rigg of 32 Finch Street, East Malvern, Victoria, who died on 14 May 1958 bequeathed part of her estate to the University - to apply the income thereof in perpetuity for the promotion and encouragement of study and research in Mining and Metallurgy or either of them in manner hereafter appearing. The income of the fund ... shall be applied in establishing and maintaining a scholarship to be called 'The Gilbert Rigg Scholarship. The University received £3, 817.5.1 and on 12 November 1971 the University received a further sum of $46,000 to augment the fund.
