Augustin Lodewyckx, formerly associate professor and head of the department of Germanic Languages in the University, Knight of the Icelandic Falcon, Knight Commander of the Order of Orange Nassau, Gold Medallist of the Goethe Institute (Munich), presented to the University the sum of £4,000 to endow a major and a minor scholarship, each of which is to be called the 'Anna Lodewyckx Icelandic Scholarship'. The scholarships are to be awarded in such a way as to promote the advanced study of Icelandic (Old Norse and Modem Icelandic) or, failing this, to encourage study and research by Australian citizens in Scandinavian countries.
