Summary

In 1938 Walter Joseph Regis Kirby, formerly of Melbourne, professional singer, bequeathed £1,000 to the University for the purpose of establishing the 'Walter Kirby Singing Scholarship'. Each scholarship Is awarded annually 'to a student who is pursuing the course for the degree of bachelor of Music and is specialising in vocal performance.' In addition, 'during the period of tenure the scholar must diligently pursue studies in a course of subjects prescribed by the head of the school of Music.' The scholarship was made a University regulation in 1938.
