On 9 September 1929 Mary and Grace Turner of the Hotel Windsor Melbourne donated £500 to the University for the purpose of establishing the 'Sir George Turner Exhibition' in memory of the late Sir George Turner, P.C., K.C.M.G., a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria, Premier of Victoria and the first Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia. 'The exhibition is awarded annually to the top ranked student in a subject in the field of constitutional law' as determined by the Dean of Melbourne Law School. The exhibition fund was made a University regulation in 1930.
