In 1905, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. T. Payne and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Payne donated £400 to the University for the purpose of establishing the 'Payne Exhibition' to advance veterinary education at the University. The exhibition is awarded annually 'to the candidate who has the highest aggregate of marks in the assessments of the clinical subjects of the final year of the course for the degree of doctor of Veterinary Medicine.' The exhibition fund was made a University regulation in 1915.
