In 1913, Mrs. Jessie Alexander Baird Currie of Malvern, Victoria, donated £600 to the University for the purpose of establishing the 'John Baird Bursary' in memory of her late brother. The bursary is awarded to a student in medicine at the University, with the financial position of the student 'taken into account so that the bursary may assist a student who would otherwise be deprived of all the advantages of university training'. The bursary was made a University regulation in 1913.
