Summary

In 1912, the administrators of the estate of William Harbison, timber merchant, donated £2,500 to the University, for the purpose of establishing the 'Harbison-Higinbotham Research Scholarship' in memory of George Higinbotham, a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Colony of Victoria. The scholarship is awarded annually 'to a student enrolled for a higher degree by research in history, economics, politics, administration, government or sociology'. The scholarship was made a University regulation in 1913.
