James Cuming of Melbourne presented £1,000 to the University for the purpose of establishing 'The James Cuming Prize'. 'The prize is to be awarded annually to the student with the top mark in a subject relating to the study of agricultural chemistry, such subject to be determined from time to time by the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences'. The prize was made a University regulation in 1910.
