On 24 October 1904 The Honourable Henry Bournes Higgins K.C., Master of Arts and Bachelor of Laws and a member of the Council of the University, presented £1000 of Victorian Government Stock to the University for the purpose of founding a scholarship for the study of poetry. The 'H.B. Higgins Scholarship' is awarded 'to students who are undertaking postgraduate studies in poetry at the University'. The scholarship was made a University regulation in 1905.
