Summary

By his will dated 7 February 1890, Robert Dixson bequeathed £10,837 1s. 5d. to the University to support 'the advancement of sound learning in the Sciences of Chemistry Experimental Physics Mathematics and Engineering'. The bequest established four scholarships called 'The Dixson Scholarship in Chemistry', 'The Dixson Scholarship in Experimental Physics', 'The Dixson Scholarship in Mathematics' and 'The Dixson Scholarship in Engineering'. The scholarship fund was made a University regulation in 1895 (University of Melbourne Calendar, 1975).
