Summary

James George Beaney, Doctor of Medicine of Collins Street, Melbourne, who died in 1891, bequeathed to amounts of £1000 to the University for the purpose of establishing a scholarship in surgery and a scholarship in pathology.' 'The Beaney Scholarship in Pathology' is awarded 'to a student enrolled for a higher degree by research in the department of Pathology' and 'The Beaney Scholarship in Surgery' is awarded 'to a student enrolled for a higher degree by research in either the department of Surgery Royal Melbourne Hospital, the department of Surgery Austin Health or the department of Surgery St Vincent's Hospital…' (University of Melbourne Calendar, 2009). The scholarship fund was made University regulations in 1892.

The Beaney Scholarship in Pathology is awarded to a student enrolled for a higher degree by research in the department of Pathology and The Beaney Scholarship in Surgery is awarded to a student enrolled for a higher degree by research in either the department of Surgery Royal Melbourne Hospital, the department of Surgery Austin Health or the department of Surgery St Vincent's Hospital.
