- Summary
In 1873 Sir William Foster Stawell donated £1,000 to the University for the encouragement of the school of Engineering. This established the 'Stawell Exhibition', which was renamed the 'Stawell Scholarship' in 1890. The scholarship is awarded to a postgraduate student for research in Engineering. The scholarship fund was made a University regulation in 1886 (University of Melbourne Calendar, 1975).
