By a memorandum of gift dated 24 June 2014, Dr R John Leaper, Bcom (Hons), MEco Melb, MA, PhD Duke University, donated $205,000 to the University for the purpose of establishing 'The Geoffrey Blainey Scholarship for Honours in Economic History'. The scholarship is 'open for award annually to students accepted into the Economics honours program within the Faculty of Business and Economics, for research informed by Economic History'. The scholarship is 'awarded based on the student's written application', which must include their 'proposed area of research and clearly demonstrate how economic history will inform their research essay'. The scholarship was made a University regulation in 2014 and was first awarded in 2015.
