By his will dated 29 March 2010, the late Harold George Mackrell bequeathed forty per cent of his residuary estate to the University, establishing 'The Harold Mackrell Indigenous Student Scholarship'. Two scholarships are awarded 'annually to Australian Indigenous/Aboriginal students to assist them with their living and studying expenses', with the recipients selected by the Indigenous Scholarships and Awards Committee. The scholarship was made a University regulation in 2014.
