By a memorandum of gift dated 12 September 2013, David Stewart Burnet and Elizabeth Joan Burnet gave the sum of $25,000 to the University, establishing 'The Melbourne Foundation for Business and Economics - Burnet Family Access Scholarship'. Each scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the Faculty of Business and Economics and who meets one or more of the following criteria: difficult family circumstances; hardship caused by socio-economic circumstances; from an under-represented school; completed school in a rural or isolated area; from an indigenous background; or are first in their family to attend a University. The scholarship was made a University regulation in 2013.
