In 1996 the University received a gift of $30,00 from Sylvia Gelman for the purpose of establishing the 'Manuel Gelman Award for Teaching Excellence' in memory of her late husband. 'The University received additional gifts of $9,000.00 from the donor, and $11,765.52 from the Estate of Manuel Gelman, in September 2013, making the total sum received for this trust $50,765.52.' Each award is presented 'to students enrolled in the course for the degree of master of Teaching to assist them in their teaching careers'. The award in its current form was made a University regulation in 2013.
