By memorandum of gift dated 17 May 2013, Francine Valerie McNiff donated $361,257.42 to the University, establishing the 'James and Valerie McNiff Scholarship' in memory of her parents. The scholarship is awarded 'to an Australian citizen or permanent resident who is a candidate for a research higher degree in the area of Medical Jurisprudence' and is based on academic ability and financial need as assessed by the dean of Melbourne Law School and at least one senior faculty member. The scholarship was made a University regulation in 2013.
