By a memorandum of gift signed and dated 16 June 2011, Neville Bertalli, as the representative of the trustee for the Bertalli Family Foundation, gave a sum of $100,000 to the University, establishing 'The Melbourne Foundation for Business and Economics - The Bertalli Family Foundation Scholarship'. The scholarship is awarded 'to a student with a permanent address in a rural area, who is commencing an undergraduate commerce degree'. Before awarding the scholarship, the dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics must consult the faculty Executive and gain endorsement from the Foundation Board. The foundation was made a University regulation in 2012 and the scholarship was first awarded to students in that same year.
