On 13 August 2010 an anonymous donor contributed $500,000 to the University, establishing 'The Sir Samuel Wadham Rural Students Scholarships'. The scholarship is awarded to a student in any area of study other than agriculture, who has a permanent address in a rural area and is in financial need. The scholarship is awarded by the Provost on the recommendation of managers at the Melbourne Scholarships Office. The fund was made a University regulation in 2010.
