On 29 June 2009, an anonymous donor donated the sum of $1,000,000 to the University, establishing 'The Commerce Opportunity Bursaries'. Each bursary is awarded to a student who is commencing an undergraduate commerce degree, is an Australian citizen residing in Victoria and is also of strong academic ability, in financial need or otherwise disadvantaged. The bursary is awarded on the recommendation of a select committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics. The bursary fund was made a University regulation in 2010.
