The purpose of the scholarship was to provide financial assistance enabling an outstanding candidate to undertake a postgraduate course in Animateuring, Directing or Writing. The scholarship was created in memory of the late Barbara Manning, also known as Barbara Manning Ward, who established the Tasmanian Theatre in Education Company and was said to have laid the foundations for a generation of ground-breaking theatre for the young.
