The Vera Scantlebury Brown Child Welfare Memorial Trust was established by a public appeal in 1946 to commemorate the work of Dr Vera Scantlebury Brown, OBE Director of Maternal Welfare and Pre-School Welfare in Victoria from 1926 until her death on 14 July 1946. By a Deed of Retirement of Trustees and Appointment of New Trustee dated 17 May 2004, the University became the trustee of the fund. On 15 June 2004, the University received the trust fund from the retiring trustees, amounting to the sum of $98,731.93.
Details
The net annual income from 'The Vera Scantlebury Brown Child Welfare Memorial Trust' must be applied to providing from time to time -
(i) the Vera Scantlebury Brown Scholarship ('the scholarship'); or
(ii) the Vera Scantlebury Brown Memorial Lectures to be given by persons who have undertaken research either in Australia or overseas in public health, community education, pre-natal care, infant welfare, pre-school activities or in any matters related to or associated with such objects.
