The University of Melbourne convened a group of eminent Australians as an advisory committee, chaired by the Chancellor, The Hon. Sir (Albert) Edward Woodward, to raise funds by way of appeal to establish a perpetual fund to endow the award of a fellowship to commemorate the life and work of the late Professor Emeritus Sir (Roy) Douglas Wright, A.K. By 31 August 1994 the University had received the sum of $268,926 as donations to the appeal.
