Dr Randal Alexander Stewart, late of 70 Riversdale Road, Hawthorn in the State of Victoria, who died on 6 February 1992 bequeathed to the University a one-quarter share of his residuary estate 'to be used by the Council of that University to found a bursary for medical research to be called 'The May Stewart Bursary' in memory of my mother...'. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Penington, whose family enjoyed a long friendship with the Stewart family, agreed, in consultation with Dr Stewart's nephew, to apply the income from the bequest to research into Alzheimer's Disease.
