Rae Gillbee Bennett, formerly of Auckland in New Zealand and later resident in Victoria, who died on 18 October 1969, bequeathed to the University the residue of his estate subject to a prior life interest to his wife. Edith Guinevere Constance Bennett, the widow of Rae Gillbee Bennett, died on 20 April 1974 and bequeathed to the University a portion of her residuary estate valued at $39,412. Each testator directed that the amount so bequeathed should be used-
"For the purpose of establishing a fund to finance a periodic award of a travelling scholarship named the 'Rae and Edith Bennett Travelling Scholarship' for the benefit of students for postgraduate study and research in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland".
