- Summary
William Henry Dawson, late of Bendigo, bequeathed the balance of his residuary estate to the University, establishing the 'Dawson Bursary Fund'. The fund supports each 'Dawson Bursary' which are awarded to applications who have entered 'the course for a research higher degree in a biological sciences discipline' such as 'Anatomy, Bacteriology, Biochemistry, Botany, Genetics, Palaeontology, Pathology, Physiology or Zoology, excluding purely clinical research in Medicine'. Preference is also given 'to children of returned soldiers' and to those in financial need. The fund was made a University regulation in 1951.
