Under the terms of a deed of settlement dated 16 July 1945 Sir Arthur Sims of London presented to the University the sum of £13,125 for the purpose of founding a travelling scholarship to Great Britain for a graduate of an Australian University. The scholarship is awarded for outstanding merit and promise in Ancient or Modern Languages, History, Philosophy, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Medicine, or any one of these subjects or in any other educational subject which a committee comprised of the vice-chancellor or nominee and five other professors or senior members of one of the other Universities in Australia selects.
