Kate Howard, late of Geelong, bequeathed £600 to the University, establishing the 'Douglas Howard Exhibitions' in memory of her late brother. The fund supports two exhibitions, one of which is awarded to 'the student enrolled in the degree of bachelor of Arts, with a top mark in Latin at the intermediate level' and the other exhibition is awarded 'to the student enrolled in the degree of Bachelor of Arts, with a top mark in Ancient Greek at the intermediate level'. The exhibitions were made a University regulation in 1949.
