Summary

Redmond Barry was The University of Melbourne Chancellor from 17 May 1853 to 23 November 1880. Holding a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity College Dublin (1837) Barry became a practicing lawyer in Ireland in 1838 before becoming Melbourne's first Solicitor-General in 1852. In addition to legal work and university roles Barry was active in the establishment of the State Library of Victoria.
